Do you calculate historic margin usage as well as historic floating P/L?

We do not display figures for historic margin usage. There are three main reasons for this:

  • Historic floating P/L (and equity) is an approximation, and a calculation of margin usage is then a further approximation based on that.
  • An increasing number of brokers have floating/variable margin usage, and the headline leverage reported for an account such as 400:1 is not necessarily correct.
  • An increasing number of people are using MT4 to trade CFDs as well as forex. On these instruments, the headline leverage figure for the account is generally just plain wrong/meaningless.

In other words: any calculation of historic margin usage is capable of being substantially wrong, and will generally be an under-estimate which could provide false reassurance.
